All 5 Disney Channel Revivals, Ranked Worst To Best
Hey Disney fans!
Ready for a trip down memory lane? The Disney Channel nostalgia is real, and revivals have become a big part of that. But let's be honest, some revivals hit the mark way better than others. So, I'm diving deep into the world of Disney Channel revivals, ranking all five from worst to best. Get ready for some opinions, some facts, and maybe a little bit of reminiscing. Let's get started!
5 Girl Meets World
Okay, I know this one is controversial. But hear me out. Girl Meets World, the sequel to the beloved Boy Meets World, had a lot of potential. Bringing back Cory and Topanga as parents was a stroke of genius, and Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter were excellent as Riley and Maya respectively.
However, the show struggled to find its own identity. It often felt like a rehash of Boy Meets World storylines, but with a younger, less experienced cast and less mature themes. The writing wasn't as sharp, and the overall charm of the original was missing. While there were moments of brilliance and heartfelt episodes, it ultimately failed to capture the magic that made Boy Meets World so special.
4 Raven's Home
Raven's Home brought back Raven Symone and Anneliese van der Pol as Raven and Chelsea, now single mothers living together. The premise was interesting, with Raven's son Booker inheriting her psychic abilities.
The show started off strong, with a focus on the challenges of single parenthood and the dynamics between the kids. However, as the series progressed, it leaned more heavily into over the top humor and slapstick comedy. While that is fine, some of the plots felt repetitive and less engaging. The original Raven's Home had a unique charm and the revival just misses that.
3 The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder
This revival of The Proud Family had a lot of hype, and for good reason. The original series was groundbreaking for its representation of a Black family and its celebration of Black culture. Louder and Prouder continues that legacy, tackling relevant social issues and incorporating modern themes.
The animation is vibrant and updated, and the original voice cast returned, bringing back the familiar warmth and humor. However, some critics felt that the show's attempts to be "woke" sometimes felt forced, and the storylines weren't always as strong as the original. Still, Louder and Prouder is a solid revival that honors its predecessor while pushing boundaries.
2 Lizzie McGuire Revival (Unreleased)
Okay, I know this is a weird one since it never actually aired. But the almost Lizzie McGuire revival deserves a spot on this list. Hilary Duff was set to reprise her role as Lizzie, now a 30 year old navigating life in New York City.
The premise was perfect, and the trailers and behind the scenes photos looked promising. However, creative differences between Duff and Disney led to the show's cancellation. From what we know, the revival was meant to tackle more mature themes, something that Disney wasn't comfortable with. It's a shame because this revival had the potential to be truly great, and fans were incredibly disappointed by its demise.
1 High School Musical: The Musical: The Series
This one might be surprising to some, but hear me out. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series isn't just a revival, it's a reinvention. The show follows a group of high school students putting on a stage production of High School Musical.
What makes this show so successful is its meta humor, its catchy original songs, and its talented young cast. The show doesn't try to replicate the original, instead it creates its own unique identity while paying homage to the source material. It's funny, heartwarming, and genuinely entertaining. The show has also launched the careers of stars like Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is a shining example of how to do a revival right.
Conclusion
So there you have it, my ranking of all five Disney Channel revivals. From the disappointing Girl Meets World to the surprisingly successful High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, the world of Disney revivals is a mixed bag. But one thing is for sure, they all tap into our nostalgia for the shows that shaped our childhoods.
I am excited to see what Disney decides to revive next. Maybe Even Stevens, Suite Life of Zack & Cody, or Kim Possible? The possibilities are endless.
